How to Get Tickets for Burning Man 2024: Tips & Tricks

Are you gearing up for Burning Man 2024 and wondering where to start? The allure of captivating photos and intriguing tales might have drawn you in, but securing a ticket is the real gateway to this mesmerizing world. For over a decade, tickets have been selling out fast, and the process might seem cryptic, lacking official agencies or clear guidelines. But fret not! Here's a detailed, step-by-step guide to demystify the process and ensure you find your way to the playa.

1. Understanding Ticket Types

Tickets for Burning Man come in various tiers, each with its price tag. If budget isn't a concern and you're set on attending, the FOMO Sale is your best bet. As the first sale organized by Burning Man, it offers 4,000 tickets at a premium price, but with fewer competitors. The majority, about 99%, say that registering for the FOMO Sale almost guarantees a ticket. Within this sale, different tiers are available, with the higher-priced ones increasing your chances of securing a spot.

Types of Sales:

  • Main Sale Tickets (April 17, 2024):
These are the primary tickets available to the general public. The price ranges from $575 to $2,500 and the number of tickets available varies from year to year. Registration for the Main Sale is open from April 10, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST to April 12, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST. The Main Sale itself begins on April 17, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST.
  • FOMO Sale (February 7, 2024):
Higher-priced tickets for those who want to secure their spot early. The tickets in this sale can cost up to $2,500 and 4,000 tickets are typically available. FOMO Sale registration is from January 31, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST to February 2, 2024, at 6pm PST. The FOMO Sale takes place on February 7, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST.
  • Low Income Tickets (closes on June 5, 2024):
The Ticket Aid Program is for individuals with limited income who can't afford standard Burning Man tickets. Applications open on March 20, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST and close on June 5, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST. Applicants must provide proof of income and expenses. Only one application per person is allowed and they must use their legal name. Approved applicants can buy a ticket for $225 plus fees and taxes, and possibly a $75 vehicle pass. It can take up to twelve weeks to receive a decision.
  • Secure Ticket Exchange Program, STEP (May 15, 2024 - August 24, 2024):
A resale platform where participants can sell or buy tickets at face value. The price of these tickets is dependent on the original purchase price and the number of tickets available is dependent on how many participants choose to sell their tickets. STEP opens on May 15, 2024, and remains open until August 24, 2024, with a pause from July 21 to August 1, 2024, for the OMG Sale.
  • OMG Sale (July 31, 2024):
Last-minute tickets released a few weeks before the event. The price and number of these tickets can vary greatly based on availability and demand. OMG Sale registration runs from July 24, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST to July 26, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST. The OMG Sale occurs on July 31, 2024, at 12pm (noon) PST.

💡 Important Advice for Any Sale You Plan to Participate In:

  • Be prepared: ensure you have a stable and fast internet connection (better at work or at home).
  • Have 1-2 credit cards on hand with sufficient funds to buy full pack (2x$ 575 + $150 = $1300).
  • If you're lucky, purchase the full available pack: 2 general admission tickets + 1 vehicle pass.
  • Registration for the sale must be completed in advance. View registration deadlines at the end of the article. Add to your calendar with reminder.
  • You must have a burner profile. If you don't have one - go and create it here.
  • We recommend choosing ticket delivery to a US address. If possible, find a trusted friend in the US and ask for permission to deliver to their address.
  • If you were lucky to buy tickets, you can find your Burning Man tickets on this portal: Use your email and password for Burner's Profile.
  • The Will Call option (where you pick up your ticket at the gates) has two major drawbacks:
    • It can only be picked up by the person who paid for it, who must present a valid ID.
    • You may spend an additional 1-5 hours in line waiting.

2. Main Ticket Sale Strategies

Following the FOMO Sale is the main ticket sale, attracting a vast number of registrants. Registration always opens before the sale itself, which starts at 12 PM Pacific Time. Picture this: Burners surrounded by their computers and phones, all vying for that coveted ticket. While the odds might seem slim, they're not zero, and participation is key. Enlist friends and acquaintances to increase your chances, even if they don't plan to attend. Sometimes, it's that one friend out of five who manages to grab the golden ticket.

    3. STEP Program and Last-Minute Sales

Missed out on the main sale? The STEP (Secure Ticket Exchange Program) is your next stop. It's a queue system that allocates tickets returned by those who can no longer attend. Many find success here. And don't overlook the Oh My God Sale towards the end of summer, offering one last shot for those still on the hunt.

    4. Special Options for Varying Needs

Burning Man also provides for those with limited finances. Low-income tickets are available to those who can articulate their financial constraints and desire to attend in an application essay. These applications are thoroughly reviewed, and if successful, you might be one of the lucky ones to secure a low-income ticket. Additionally, specific tickets are reserved for artists, members of large camps, and contributors of significant art pieces or art cars. Joining such a community or project, however, demands substantial commitment and teamwork.
