Burning Man Arrival Day: What to Keep Accessible
Compartir
Pack a small arrival kit for gate delays, dust, sun, temperature changes and the first hours of camp setup.
Quick answer: Arrival is not the moment to discover that goggles are beneath a week of luggage. Build one small kit that stays within reach from the road through camp setup.
Prepare for waiting
Keep water, snacks, ticket details, photo ID and sun protection available. Every vehicle except a motorcycle needs a vehicle pass displayed before arrival; entry before the official opening also requires valid early-arrival access. Follow official traffic and Gate instructions.
Expect dust before camp
Goggles and a fitted dust mask belong in the arrival kit. Secure loose papers and keep windows managed according to current conditions.
Dress for setup, not photographs
Wear practical shoes and breathable clothing. Keep a warm layer accessible if arrival extends into evening.
Know what the Gate process requires
Keep ticket details, photo ID and the vehicle pass accessible before joining Gate traffic. Stay in the vehicle unless staff direct otherwise and use the lanes and radio information provided. Weather can delay or close entry, so arrive with enough water, food, medication and patience for an extended wait.
Do not build camp in travel clothes alone
Arrival can extend from hot daylight into a cold or dusty evening. Keep goggles, mask, sun protection, practical shoes, work gloves and a warm layer in the passenger area. The best arrival outfit is the one that lets you wait safely and begin setup without unpacking the entire vehicle.
